For almost 130 years, Avon has given beauty a purpose: to empower women everywhere. And whatever job we do, all of us at Avon stand for beauty, innovation, optimism and, above all, for women.
Our products - including color cosmetics, skincare, fragrance, and fashion and home - are sold by 6 million active independent Avon Sales Representatives worldwide, supported by a team of Associates working in corporate locations across the globe. You'll recognize some famous names among them, including Avon Color, ANEW, Avon Care, Skin-So-Soft and Advance Techniques.
The Start of Something Beautiful
Since 1886, Avon has been a leading force in women's empowerment. Our founder, David H. McConnell, launched a business based on the idea that women could earn an independent income "in support of their well-being and happiness" - back when just 20% of American women worked outside the home and a full 34 years before they won the right to vote in the U.S. Originally a door-to-door bookseller, McConnell built his business on two key insights: First, his customers, mostly women, loved the free perfume samples he offered as a door-opener incentive. Second, women were more likely to buy beauty products sold by other women. Avon's history of empowering women began when Mrs. Persis F. Eames Albee signed on to become our first independent Representative.
Direct selling is a sales channel where products are marketed directly to customers, meaning no middlemen - wholesalers, advertisers and retailers. Our Representatives are independent contractors who sell Avon products to consumers. At Avon, the "direct" part of direct selling also refers to the personal relationships Representatives build with their customers, either face-to-face or online. With this social selling comes a high level of personal service and attention.
Avon's Executive Leadership Committee represents the top 12 leaders in the company. It's comprised of veteran executives who have made a mark in the direct-selling, beauty and packaged goods industries in addition to luxury goods, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, technology and insurance. They have a combined 360 years in the corporate arena. Our Executive Committee members have worked across the globe. They represent diverse backgrounds but all share an incredible passion for Avon and our mission of empowering women.

If you've ever participated in an AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer or Avon Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer event, or heard us Speak Out Against Domestic Violence, you're already aware of the important work we do. In fact, the U.S.-based Avon Foundation for Women has been giving back to communities in which we operate since 1955. Globally, Avon philanthropy has donated nearly a billion dollars to causes that matter most to women.
We focus on eradicating breast cancer and ending gender-based violence around the world. Through the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, we promote or aid charitable, scientific, educational, and humanitarian activities, with a special emphasis on initiatives that improve the lives of women and their families.
Since 2004, we've been speaking up about ending the epidemic of gender-based violence through our Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program. We've been raising funds to build awareness, educate people, and improve prevention and direct service programs across the globe.

Avon has a long-standing commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint. We continuously evaluate how to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and in the manufacturing of our products. We are dedicated to environmental stewardship and apply the principles of sustainability to our daily work.
We are also committed to helping end deforestation, a crisis that endangers the health and well-being of our society and our environment. Healthy Forests, Beautiful World, Avon’s reforestation fundraising initiative, empowers us all to be a part of a global movement to help end deforestation. Through Avon’s unique power to mobilize for meaningful causes, we raise funds through the sale of special, environmentally conscious fundraising products by Representatives and online at Avon eCommerce sites. Avon donates the funds raised to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support reforestation projects in Brazil and Indonesia, two of the most critically endangered ecosystems that play a crucial role in mitigating climate. Through the end of 2014, Avon's Healthy Forests, Beautiful World program has donated $7.5 million.
